     Cyclone Aila: Relief and Rehabilitation Program

 C
yclonic Storm Aila wrecked havoc on the coastal South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on May 25, 2009. MUKTI immediately joined the disaster relief effort and started rehabilitation work. They helped to move the stranded people to higher grounds. They provide all basic necessities like food, drinking water, common medicines to the effected people. They also provided hurricane lamps, torch lights, clothes, utensils and plastic sheets for immediate staying arrangements...

      Post Aila Activities

 MUKTI organized various programs to help Aila affected people of Sunderban and these activities are mainly designed keeping long term benefit for the affected people in mind. Medical camps were set-up to help people to fight with different illness. MUKTI also executed rehabilitation program for restoration of local water bodies to provide sweet water and to restrict spreading of diseases. MUKTI helped farmers by distributing cultivated Paddy Seedling, teaching different agricultural practices that are economically viable, environmentally sound.       Natural Revolution with K(C)oconut

 NaRKEL (Natural Revolution with K(C)oconut for Ecology & Livelihood) is a collaborative project between MUKTI and both Government of India and West Bengal. The project was initiated in 2008 and is one of the biggest projects of MUKTI with its end deliverables planned for the year 2017 through a cumulative massive project. Beyond Phase I, MUKTI has successfully even finished the Phase II of this project with the successful plantation of 4000 saplings.       Lighting up Sunderban and their people’s lives

 Over 1.6 billion people in the world lack access to electricity and roughly 25% are in India alone with majority of them are in rural areas like Sunderban as an example. Recognizing the need to change the existing scenario, TERI (The Energy Research Institute headed by Dr. R K Pachauri); with its vision to work for global sustainable development and its commitment towards creating innovative solutions for a better tomorrow; along with grass root organizations like MUKTI; has undertaken an initiative of 'Lighting a Billion Lives' (LaBL) through the use of solar lighting devices. In alignment with the above project, MUKTI has specifically set-up another project on Solar reading lamp at Nagendrapur GP called Cosmos Ignite Innovations. In a totally separate project for Sunderban interiors, MUKTI, USA and One Million Lights, USA distributed 40 solar lamps among talented but needy students and some underprivileged villagers of Dakshin Kankandighi, Sunderban... read more

MERP Project:  

 Mukti successfully organized MERP (Mukti Education Rehabitation Program) in different schools of Sunderban in West Bengal. After devastating cyclone Aila the students of this area lost their regular class books and study materials along with their home. Homeless students stopped going school...! read more
